Sail a schooner through Casco Bay with realistic wind and sea simulation.

Stand at the wheel of a 67-foot, two-masted gaff schooner and sail her through Casco Bay, Maine.

The bay is all around you, built from real elevation, seabed and aerial-photo data. You'll pass the islands and

their spruce woods, the Portland waterfront, Portland Head Light, the old forts and the channel buoys, with their

bells and gongs sounding across the water. The wind and sea are simulated, so she sails the way a heavy wooden

schooner does. She heels in the puffs, slows as she tacks, rounds up if you let go of the wheel, and runs aground

if you cut a ledge too fine.

TAKE THE HELM

• Steer by taking hold of the wheel and turning it.

• Trim the mainsail by hauling and easing the mainsheet with your hands.

• Watch the sails fill, flog and draw. Every rope, block and sail moves with the wind.

OR LET THE CREW SAIL

• You don't need to know how to sail. The crew trims the headsails for you, and can trim the main too.

• Choose a cruise and the crew will steer, trim and tack her round the islands while you walk the deck or sit back

and watch. Take the wheel any time and she's yours again.

A DAY ON THE BAY

• Summer afternoon or a glowing sunset.

• Five kinds of day, from a light morning air through the summer sea breeze to a fresh, shifty northwesterly,

with a strength slider.

• Gulls that wheel over the ledges and sometimes follow the boat, a ferry running its timetable to Peaks Island,

whitecaps when the breeze pipes up, and the odd surprise.

• A nautical-style chart of the bay shows where you are, your track and the cruise route.

COMFORTABLE ABOARD

• Ride "like a sailor", with the horizon level and the deck moving under you, or "strapped to the deck" with the

world tilting with the boat.

• Choose how much boat motion you feel, all the way down to a level deck.

• Stand at the helm, in the cockpit, in the waist, on the foredeck or at the bow.

Every sound is synthesised: the water along the hull, the wind in the rig, the creak of the blocks, and the gulls.
