Build a lunar science base, manage survival needs, and make real discoveries.
Your crew has just touched down on the Moon. Keep them alive, and find out what the Moon can teach us.
Base Alpha is a survival strategy game about building the first lunar science base. Choose one of five real landing sites, set down your first habitat, and build the power, oxygen, water and food your crew need to live, before the Sun sets on a night that lasts two weeks.
Then do what you came for: explore, study and discover.
MAKE REAL DISCOVERIES
• 13 discoveries drawn from real lunar science: ancient comet ice in craters that never see the Sun, a lava tube big enough to shelter a city, the Moon's first crust, a fragment of the early Earth, helium-3 for fusion, the radio glow from before the first stars, and more
• Survey strange sites with your crew, record moonquakes and solar flares in your Research Lab, and watch the sky from an Observatory
• Every discovery explains what it means for people on Earth, earns a grant, and makes your base better
• Each mission has a science goal as well as a survival goal, and a Science Archive keeps everything you've found
BUILD YOUR BASE
• 16 modules, all open from the start: habitats, solar arrays, life support, ice extractors, greenhouses, battery banks, reactors, excavators, sintering plants, parts factories, storage depots, comms arrays, research labs, observatories, robotics depots and a launch pad
• Mine metals and helium-3, dig regolith by hand, and turn them into bricks and parts
• Plan a layout that keeps your crew clear of reactor radiation
LEAD YOUR CREW
• Recruit specialists and name them: engineers build faster, scientists research faster, geologists survey and dig faster, medics help everyone heal
• Every crew member has their own health and radiation dose. Send them out to build, survey and repair, and bring them in before it's too late
• Crew off duty work at the lab desks, and a Robotics Depot's robots repair the base without taking a dose
SURVIVE THE MOON
• The lunar night: 14 sols without sunlight. Store enough power, or run reactors on helium-3
• Micrometeorite strikes, moonquakes, solar flares, dust storms, deep cold, crop blight, scrubbed launches and more
TRADE WITH EARTH
• Order supplies and recruits, delivered by rocket to your launch pad
• Export helium-3 and metals to pay for the colony
• Research upgrades such as Thin-film Solar, a Water Recycler and a Med Bay
FIVE REAL LANDING SITES,
FOUR DIFFICULTIES
Shackleton Rim, Mare Tranquillitatis, Cabeus Crater, Malapert Massif and the Marius Hills, each with its own mix of ice, sunlight, metals and helium-3, and a fresh map every mission. From a 30-sol Easy mission to an 80-sol Brutal one. New to the Moon? The Training Mission teaches the basics step by step.
