Trade goods across 23 medieval cities as a Hanseatic merchant, managing prices and competition.
A trading simulation in the spirit of the great PC classics of the 1990s: calm, deep, with open numbers and no time pressure – made for iPad.
June 1316. The Great Famine lies over Europe. With a small lighter, a little gold and a trade patent from the council, you begin your career as a merchant of the Hanseatic League in your home town. If you like, Agnes, the guild elder, will show you the ropes – from your first purchase to your first sea battle.
TRADE WHERE IT PAYS
23 cities from Novgorod to Lisbon, from Bergen to Florence – 21 ports and two inland trading towns. 20 goods from grain to gold. Every city produces and needs different things; prices rise when goods are scarce and fall when the market is full. At the trading post you buy into your hold or your warehouse, sell from either and move goods between them.
Before every departure, the profit calculator works out voyage costs and net profit.
DISCOVER NEW PORTS
At first you know only your home town, its neighbors and two distant trading partners. You hear of other ports in the news – a pilot, a sea chart or a contract gets you a course there. Some towns can only be reached by wagon, with tolls, highwaymen and escorts, and across the Alpine pass all the way to Genoa.
HISTORY IN MOTION
Storms rage from autumn to spring, and in winter the northern Baltic ices over. More than 60 historical events from 1315 to 1347 – famines, wars, blockades, plagues, pilgrim years – change prices, dues and dangers across whole regions. Or choose "Living history", which takes its own course.
Perishable cargo needs cooling or salting: ice, salt and a cooling chest save the load.
REPUTATION IS GRATITUDE
Bring a city what it lacks and it will thank you. When a city goes hungry you can help – and be honored as its Friend, its Hero or even an Honorary Citizen. Buy up food in times of need and you are a profiteer.
CONTRACTS WITH DEADLINES
The guild offers delivery contracts, the council sends you hunting pirates, and great voyages lead all the way to Rome. The travel map shows every active contract with its days left; waiting stops before important dates.
YOUR CAREER
Rise from citizen through merchant, traveling merchant and master merchant to councilman and patrician. Then the council calls an election: your votes come from your reputation, the citizens' contentment, completed council tasks and your businesses. Become mayor of your home town and earn your honors and a place in the Hall of Fame.
Then keep playing – or choose free play without a goal from the start.
FLEET AND SEA BATTLES
Four ship classes in three variants each – lighter, cog, fluyt and hulk; fast, armored or balanced. Order new ships and keep trading while they are built. Equip your ships with items and officers in five tiers; the whole-fleet view shows which ship slows you down.
Face pirates in turn-based sea battles – or let them be fought automatically.
TRADING HOUSE,
CREDIT AND BUSINESSES
Store goods in trading houses, insure your cargo, take loans from the bank. Buy your own businesses – 13 kinds, from farm to silver mine; they deliver to your trading house, and when it is full, the surplus goes to market. "Possessions & reputation" shows your trading houses, ships, businesses and wealth at a glance.
EVERYTHING AT A GLANCE
The logbook remembers prices and news from every city; the handbook explains every rule and every number.
FOR NEWCOMERS AND EXPERTS
